Unusual materials are a hallmark of @damiano_fasso, one of the most original and eccentric artists on the contemporary scene.
This work, "Untitled," is a blend of extravagance and purity. The rough, textured, almost embossed sheet of paper has been encapsulated in a plexiglass case. The raw edge is clearly visible, and the painting's glossy acrylic enamels lend a postmodern dimension to the work. Many have attempted to translate the ideograms, and just as many have noted the use of stitched thread as if suturing a wound. The words "TUTTA LA SOLITUDE DEL MONDO" perhaps suggest the work's intention, perhaps not. It is in this dimension of suspension and absence of an "invasive" meaning that Fasso's enigmatic research resides. Using contemporaneity as a playground, partly digital and partly physical, Fasso creates a low-fi universe saturated with light and color, only seemingly uninhibited.
